Our Cancer Champion journey started a few years ago when we discovered that our neighbor had a brain tumor. We wanted to do something special for him and that is when we came up with this idea. We have a wonderful friend, Larry, who gives up his time and comes out on tournament day to be a on a special hole. He then offers to hit the ball for a small donation to our Cancer Champion. With this, we have been able to give our Cancer Champion and their family a nice gift because of the generosity of our golfers! I think this is something special that sets us apart from other charity golf tournaments. We have been fortunate enough to have most of our Cancer Champions attend our dinner so that we can give them their gift in person and let them meet our golfers!
Our 2017 Cancer Champion ~ Toby Geselevich
Toby is a now 10 year old fighting the good fight again. September 29th, 2009 was the day we first found out he had cancer (ALL) we fought hard for 3.5 years and went into complete remission in November 2012. He then relapsed January 12th 2017, 7 years in remission 5 years off treatment. We are now in the fight again. And we believe with all our hearts he will beat this battle too. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers.
Our 2016 Cancer Champion ~ Ben Brewer
May 20, 2016 ~
In 2004, Ben Brewer was 2 1/2 years old when he was diagnosed with stage four Neuroblastoma. He endured many rounds of chemo, several surgeries, radiation, and a bone marrow transplant. He was declared to have no evidence of disease in June of 2005!
Life was normal for a couple of years, but unfortunately, the disease came back in 2009. Fast forward to today and Ben is still fighting this insidious disease - three more relapses in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
Ben continues to fight with tenacity! We learned two weeks ago that he once again has no evidence of disease! Despite this wonderful news, Ben will always have to endure some sort of therapy since this disease keeps returning.
Ben will be a freshman in high school next year. He's hoping to actually attend school next year instead of working with a tutor like he has been for the past several years. He has a younger sister, Madeline, who he usually gets along with. He enjoys video games, animals, and his volunteer job at a video game store in Aurora, CO.
January 26, 2017 ~
